Upload a 3MF painted with the brush in Bambu Studio or Orca Slicer and click the areas you want to separate. Each becomes a separate part you can print on its own or assign its own filament. The file is processed in your browser.
How to split a multicolor 3MF into parts by color
Your model is painted with the brush in Bambu Studio or Orca Slicer, but you do not want to print it in one go with an AMS — or you have no AMS: a filament change on every layer takes long and makes a lot of purge waste. It is easier to turn the colored areas into separate parts, print each in its own filament and assemble. This tool does it right in your browser: upload the 3MF, click the areas, and they become separate parts. The file is never uploaded.
Multicolor 3D printing without an AMS
Once the colors are separate parts, the model prints on any single-extruder printer: each part in its own color, one after another, then put together. Even with an AMS, separate parts usually print faster and need no prime tower.
Picking the areas
- Click a colored area to select it. Hold Ctrl to pick several; on a phone, tap again to deselect.
- Clicking the main color selects everything else at once.
- A separated part can be put back into the model — one at a time or all.
Patch or interlocking
- Interlocking (default) — the part goes into the model with a flat-bottomed plug, with a matching socket in the model. It lies on the bed on that flat bottom and does not slide during assembly. Bottom area, depth and clearance (0.2 mm by default) are adjustable.
- Patch — the cut is a thin film along the edge of the area, with no plug; such a part will most likely need supports. If the part is thinner than 2 mm on average, you get a warning that the patch will be fragile, with a button to cut it as interlocking instead.
Pin
For a secure fit add a pin — triangle, cylinder or square — on the part or on the model. Drag it along the cut; if it does not fit the bottom, it gets smaller.
If the colors are already separate
If every color in the file is already a separate body, your slicer can split it too (Split → To parts). The tool tells you so, and you can still add a plug and a pin here.
What you get
The parts are placed to the right of the model, flat side down. Download a 3MF — with every copy from the plate, in Bambu Studio's own format for Bambu Studio — or a ZIP with separate STL files, one copy of each object.
FAQ
How do I 3D print in multiple colors without an AMS?
Split the painted 3MF into parts by color, print each part in its own filament on a regular printer and assemble them. With Interlocking the parts plug into the model and do not slide.
How do I split a 3MF by color into separate parts?
Upload a 3MF painted with the brush in Bambu Studio or Orca Slicer, click the colored areas, choose Interlocking or Patch and split. Download the parts as a 3MF or a ZIP with separate STL files.
Can I convert a painted 3MF to separate STL files?
Yes. After splitting, download the ZIP — every part and the model are separate STL files.
Patch or interlocking — which one?
Interlocking is more reliable: the part plugs into the model and lies on the bed on its flat bottom. Patch is a cut with no plug, and the part usually needs supports; if it is thinner than 2 mm, you get a warning that it will be fragile.
Which file do I need?
A painted 3MF only. Up to 1,200,000 triangles per object; if it is bigger, simplify the model in your slicer.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No, everything runs in your browser.
