Lab

Each block is the intersection of two letters turned at a right angle to each other. Look from the left and you see the first word, from the right — the second. The stand and the letters are separate parts, so they can be printed in different colors.

Dual name illusion: two words in one 3D print

Look at it from the left and you read one word, from the right — another. It is a popular gift for two: two names, a name and a date, MOM and DAD. Type two words and the generator builds the model for your 3D printer, stand included.

How it works

A letter of the first word is extruded along the view from the right, a letter of the second along the view from the left. Their intersection looks like the first letter from one side and like the second from the other. View it at 45°.

Words of different length

If one word has more letters, some letters of the shorter word become double: they get longer in depth and hold two or three letters of the other word. They are spread evenly, or click the letters you want. If one word is more than three times longer than the other, the pair cannot be built and the generator asks you to shorten it.

Font and size

14 solid fonts, Oswald by default. Letter width 8–60 mm, height 8–120 mm, plus Boldness and a scale for the whole model. By default every letter is stretched to fill its block; Keep letter proportions keeps the font's shape. Phrases work too — words go in pairs with a gap between them.

Stand and engraving

The stand is rounded, rectangular or none. Its long sides can carry text on the front and back — a date, a wish — raised or engraved, each in its own font.

Checks before printing

If two letters intersect into a loose piece that rests on nothing, the block turns red. If the model does not fit your bed, it is turned 45°.

FAQ

Why are some blocks red?

The intersection of these two letters produced a piece that does not stand on the base and will not hold. Try another font, toggle Keep proportions or choose other double letters.

Can the two words have different lengths?

Yes. Letters of the shorter word become double and hold two or three letters of the longer one. It only fails if one word is more than three times longer.

At what angle do I look at it?

At 45° from the left and from the right — the Left and Right buttons in the generator let you check both words before printing.

What is the difference between STL, 3MF and ZIP?

STL is one body for single-color printing. 3MF has the letters and the stand (and its text, if any) as separate parts of one model, each can get its own filament. ZIP has the same parts as separate STL files.

Can I add text to the stand?

Yes, on the front and the back — each in its own font, raised or engraved. If it does not fit, you get a warning.
